It sounds new and modern, but the
Danish jewelry company Trollbeads has actually been engaging its fans with this
concept since 2009!
Every year, since 2009, Trollbeads
has invited its fans and followers to submit suggestions for new beads for the
international brand’s collection. Trollbeads calls the event The People’s Bead
and every year fans around the globe take up the challenge. The participants
themselves also choose the 24 finalists, and from these also the winner. The
winner receives a 18 k gold version of their winning design, which Trollbeads
then puts into production.
The opportunity to be a co-designer
and vote for the final winner creates a unique level of commitment and tightly
connects the fans to the popular jewelry brand. An involvement that can be felt
all the way out to the individual retailer, where the year’s People’s Bead is a
popular collector’s item.
Tips of the event spread from fan to
fan via Facebook or Instagram. Excitement spreads like wildfire, and with great
speed.
It is up to the fans to find out,
which designs they feel are missing in the collection. Inspiration can come for
everywhere – a feeling, a passion or what is closest to the heart. The design
and submission phase runs from February 6 until February 26. Then it is time to vote for the finalists,
from February 27 to March 5. And then finally vote for the winner from 13 March
until 19 March. On August 18, the winner is announced, and the bead will be
available online and in stores all around the world from September 1, 2023.
